Established in 2001, the National Association of Counties (NACo) annually recognizes the effective leadership of elected county officials through the Association’s County Courthouse Awards. NACo President, Glen Whitley stated,
As we move forward in these testing times, good governance is most important as we attempt to meet the public safety, economic, environmental, and technological challenges facing America’s counties. As a nation we are fortunate that so many of our county leaders have long since understood this, and have the inquisitiveness to develop needed solutions.
Awards are presented in three categories: rural, urban and suburban counties. Winners receive a $5,000 college scholarship to present to a graduating high school senior. Applications are available on the NACo website and are due by April 29, 2011.
