Following a vote today by the Frederick Board of County Commissioners, current and future Commissioners will no longer be considered eligible to participate in the County’s employees’ retirement/pension plan. The elimination of the current policy is projected to save Frederick County $150,000 over the next four years. Board President Blaine Young Commissioner stated:
“The majority of the Board of County Commissioners have heard the citizens loud and clear-the office we hold is a service to the people of this county and not a career. We receive compensation for our public service and should not get a pension or retirement plan as part of the package as elected officials. We hope that other federal and state elected officials take note of our actions in Frederick County today and follow our lead. “
