Established in 1972, the Montgomery County Pre-Release Center has been helping returning citizens rebuild their lives for over 50 years.
Detention centers and public safety officials often end up in the spotlight when something tragic has taken place. It is rare to see media highlighting the life-changing restorative work detention center staff are doing everyday in the community. A recent WTOP article focused on exactly that, featuring the work of the Montgomery County Pre-Release Center in Rockville, MD that has been helping returning citizens land on their feet for over 50 years. The program establishes vital programs to help detainees find housing, ongoing substance disorder support, employment, assistance with healthcare, vital documents, and more.
A 2025 MACo Winter Conference panel titled, “The Reentry Bridge: Where Access Meets Opportunity,” will feature experts discussing rehabilitation and reentry planning in Montgomery County and beyond. The session will take place Wednesday, December 10, 2025; 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm. MACo’s Winter Conference, “Local Leadership, Lasting Impact: Shaping What’s Next,” will be held at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Hotel in Cambridge, MD, on December 10-12, 2025.
