Central Committee Taps Former State Delegate to Fill Carroll Commissioner Vacancy

Former state Delegate Susan Krebs will return to public service after the Carroll County Republican Central Committee nominated her to serve as the District 5 commissioner.

The Committee selected Krebs from a pool of four applicants to fill the seat vacated by Commissioner Ed Rothstein, who resigned at the end of July to lead the Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families. Rothstein also served on the MACo Board of Directors, representing Carroll County in statewide policy discussions.

Krebs represented Carroll County in the House of Delegates for 20 years before choosing not to seek reelection in 2022. She previously served on the Carroll County Board of Education, giving her direct experience with both county and state governance.

She also served on the Commission to Advance Next Generation 9-1-1 Across Maryland, a MACo priority that modernized emergency communications and enhanced public safety statewide.

Under state law, the governor must appoint the nominee submitted by the local party central committee within 15 days. If the Senate of Maryland is in session, the Senate must confirm the appointment. If the Senate is in recess, the governor’s appointment takes effect immediately, but the Senate will review and act on the nomination within 30 days of the next session convening.

If Governor Wes Moore approves, Krebs will serve the remainder of the term through December 2026.
