Calvert County’s fiscal 2026 budget maintains current tax rates while boosting investments in public safety, education, and core government services.
The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) adopted a $386 million general fund operating budget for fiscal 2026, reinforcing the County’s commitment to public services, safety, and strategic capital investments.
The fiscal 2026 budget maintains existing local income and property tax rates, holding steady at 3.2% for income and 96.7 cents per $100 of assessed property value.
Education continues to command a substantial portion of the County’s budget, with $163 million in mandated local funding for the Calvert County Board of Education — 44% of the general fund.
“This budget prioritizes general government, education, public safety, capital investments and maintaining a high level of service to the Calvert County community,” said Commissioner President Earl F. “Buddy” Hance. “Despite funding challenges, we are confident this new operating budget will provide the services and amenities expected from the community.”
Significant Investments in the Fiscal 2026 Budget:
-
$40 million for the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, including funding for two new deputies
-
Over $20 million for Public Safety, with 16 new positions and $2.2 million in added revenue from fees and EMS cost recovery to offset expenses
-
$31 million for general government services
-
$7 million transferred to capital projects, including $5 million to sustain the County’s road paving program
To support ongoing service delivery, the County will implement moderate fee increases for select services in the Departments of Public Works and Parks and Recreation, effective July 1, 2025. These adjustments reflect shifts in community needs, inflationary cost pressures, and the launch of new programs.
