Upper Shore Council and County Partners Highlight Startup Success

The Upper Shore Regional Council (USRC) brought together local startups, lenders, and community leaders to spotlight homegrown innovation and support entrepreneurs across Cecil, Kent, and Queen Anne’s counties.

Recently, the Upper Shore STRT1UP Roadshow returned to Washington College, highlighting entrepreneurship across Cecil, Kent, and Queen Anne’s counties. Now in its second year, the event featured eight promising startups, providing a platform for innovation, networking, and real financial support for local businesses in Maryland’s Upper Shore region.

Organized by the Upper Shore Regional Council (USRC), in partnership with local economic development agencies and Startup Maryland, the event awarded $5,500 in cash prizes, hosted two insightful panel discussions, and included a fast-paced speed-lending session connecting entrepreneurs with potential lenders and valuable feedback.

From the press release:

“The 2025 Upper Shore STRT1UP Roadshow Pitch Competition was an incredible success and a true celebration of innovation across our region,” said Jamie Williams, CEcD, director of Kent County Economic and Tourism Development. “Thanks to the support of the Upper Shore Regional Council and key contributors—including TEDCO, the Maryland Department of Commerce, Washington College, SBDC, Upper Shore Business Mentors, the Office of the Comptroller of Maryland, the Rural Maryland Council, and Startup Maryland—we were able to empower local entrepreneurs and strengthen our regional economy.”

As local governments continue to foster innovation and economic development, the Roadshow serves as a model for energizing regional entrepreneurship through collaboration, funding, and community-building.
