Due to Angela Alsobrooks’s resignation on December 2, 2024, Prince George’s County is gearing up for a special election to select a new County
Executive.
The special general election is scheduled for June 3, 2025, with primary elections held earlier this week on March 4, 2025. Currently, with ballot counting not yet complete, State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy leads for the Democrats with 43.06% of the vote. Her nearest competitor is former County Executive Rushern L. Baker III, who has secured 21.11% of the vote. County Councilmember Calvin S. Hawkins Jr. follows closely with 20.22%.
In the Republican primary, George McDermott narrowly secured the nomination with 33.98% of the vote, edging out Jonathan White, who received 33.59%, and Jesse Peed with 32.43%.
Unofficial results for the Council seat in District 5 show Shayla Adams-Stafford, former Board of Education member, in first place with 1,214, or nearly 47% of the vote. Ryan Middleton remains in second with 781, or 30% of the vote. Republican candidate Fred Price Jr. ran uncontested for the post.
The Democratic primary featured the following candidates:

- Moisette Tonya Sweat
Notably, Jolene Ivey, Chair of the Prince George’s County Council, withdrew from the race on February 12, 2025, but her name remained on the ballot.

- Jonathan White
Assuming the current leads hold through the remaining counting, Braveboy and Adams-Stafford will face their general election vote on June 3, 2025.
