Prince George’s County has announced the appointment of Adriana Caldarelli as the Interim Director of the Department of the Environment (DoE),
effective Monday, January 27, 2025. Ms. Caldarelli steps into this role following the departure of former Director Andrea L. Crooms
“We are thrilled to have Adriana Caldarelli step into this important leadership role,” said Acting County Executive Jackson. “Her vision and passion for environmental stewardship are exactly what Prince George’s County needs as we continue to prioritize sustainability and environmental justice. I have full confidence in her ability to advance our county’s environmental goals while building on the strong foundation laid by Andrea Crooms.”
In her tenure with Prince George’s County, Ms. Caldarelli has been instrumental in advancing key environmental initiatives. Notably, she played a pivotal role in the “Bag it Right” campaign, aimed at reducing single-use plastics and promoting the use of reusable bags.
She emphasized the environmental impact of plastic bags, stating, “Single-use plastics, especially plastic bags, are pervasive in our environment. Plastic bags are the single-most common item found in clean-up efforts on our streets, waterways, and communities.”
Ms. Caldarelli brings a wealth of experience in environmental management and policy. Prior to joining Prince George’s County, she served as the Director of the Stormwater Institute at the Water Environment Federation, where she also led the National Green Infrastructure Certification Program—a workforce development initiative focused on the proper maintenance, construction, and inspection of green infrastructure. Before that, she dedicated 17 years to the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, working extensively on stormwater and water quality policy and permitting.
