MACo’s Winter Conference, themed “Anticipate, Adapt, Achieve: Thriving Through Turbulent Times,” was held from December 11 to 13, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency Resort in Cambridge, MD.
The conference precedes Maryland’s General Assembly Session, and its sessions mainly focused on the pressing fiscal and operational challenges facing local governments. With increasing demands, competing priorities, and mandates vying for limited budget space, county leaders explored innovative solutions to provide cost-effective, high-quality public services. Another key focus of the conference was the ongoing public sector workforce crisis. The discussions also highlighted how evolving technologies and shifting budget priorities offer opportunities to enhance efficiency and better serve Maryland residents.
Through collaboration and forward-thinking approaches, the conference reaffirmed the commitment of Maryland counties to meeting the needs of their communities, even in challenging times.
Other standout moments included Governor Wes Moore swearing in the 2025 Board of Directors and Officers, a heartfelt tribute to MACo Executive Director Michael Sanderson for 30 years of dedicated service to the association, and the renaming of the MACo County Professional Recognition Award to the LaMonte Cooke County Service Award.
