Garrett County has announced Jennifer Hare’s appointment as the Garrett County Health Officer, effective November 27, 2024. Maryland Department of Health Secretary Laura Herrera Scott approved the appointment following Hare’s nomination by the Garrett County Board of Commissioners.
Hare, who has served as interim Health Officer since June 2024, steps into the role after the retirement of longtime Health Officer Robert Stephens. As Health Officer, Hare will oversee the Garrett County Health Department’s operations, including establishing policies, setting program goals, and managing personnel and financial resources.

Hare’s responsibilities extend to collaborating with the Maryland Department of Health and local organizations to ensure the health and well-being of residents. She will carry out the full scope of duties and powers prescribed by law for Health Officers in Maryland.
