Leadership from the Local Management Boards affiliate of MACo shared legislative concerns and initiatives with General Assembly members this Wednesday.
The Joint Committee on Children, Youth, and Families received a briefing from MACo affiliate members regarding the current circumstances and priorities for local management boards (LMB) statewide. As they prepare advocacy efforts, sharing information with relevant committees and stakeholders is vital to making certain local concerns are heard. The entire meeting from yesterday can be viewed online.
Priorities include:
- a request for additional state funding to keep up with recent state mandates – $7M
- removing barriers to expanding private pre-kindergarten
- broadening Blueprint implementation efforts in community schools
- continuing to work through broad Blueprint implementation challenges that effect vulnerable children, youth, and families
In a brief presentation, LMB leadership walked through the history of these local agencies, and how their charge of organizing resources to add efficiency and remove duplication of efforts for vulnerable children, youth, and families, is even more important today with the increases in need. Given the Governor’s goals around combating childhood poverty and increasing economic mobility, supporting these agencies is paramount to positive shared outcomes.
