Harford Achieves Highest Audit Rating, Reinforcing Fiscal Integrity and Transparency

Harford County’s fiscal 2024 financial report received a clean audit opinion, underscoring its commitment to accurate financial reporting and accountability.

The independent audit, conducted by CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, verified that Harford’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) meets strict standards for accuracy and confirmed no material misstatements or deviations from generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

The clean audit of Harford’s ACFR covers a comprehensive review mandated by state and local regulations. It provides an in-depth snapshot of the County’s financial health as of June 30, 2024, including insights into revenue, expenses, investment returns, debt management, and pensions.

This independent assessment affirms the County’s prudent fiscal management practices, with the auditors offering no management comments or findings—indicative of smooth and transparent operations across the board.

“I am proud that once again my administration’s dedication to accuracy and transparency in financial reporting has been recognized by independent financial professionals,” County Executive Bob Cassilly said. “I would like to thank Harford County Treasurer Robbie Sandlass and his team, as well as my entire leadership team, for achieving this highest possible opinion from one of the nation’s top accounting firms.”

The fiscal 2024 ACFR is available on the Harford County website.

Harford County’s recent clean audit confirms its dedication to fiscal transparency and accuracy. As federal elections loom, Maryland counties brace for shifting fiscal policies and state-level economic challenges that could impact budgets and planning.
