Maryland’s own Michael Sanderson was elected by peers from across the country to serve as President of the National Council of County Association Executives.
Michael Sanderson has been voted as President of the National Council of County Association Executives, an affiliate of the National Association of Counties (NACo) including directors of the various state associations. He was elected by the council membership during its annual fall meeting in October in Whitefish, Montana.
NCCAE Past President Chris Villines, Executive Director of the Association of Arkansas Counties, offered his perspective and endorsement:
NCCAE is a wonderful organization that embodies the best of ideas from around the country. All county associations are made better through this forum and as past president I can think of no one better to lead our organization than Director Michael Sanderson. His experience and skill will be great assets to us all and I look forward to our progress under his leadership.
Mr. Sanderson, who currently also serves as Past Chair of a southeastern regional group of state associations, looked forward to his term:
The role as a state director is unique, it’s hard to find a real peer group. But I have learned so much from my counterparts through this organization over my years participating. This is easily the best professional group I’ve ever been part of.
Mr. Sanderson will serve as the NCCAE President and as a member of the NACo Board of Directors in 2024-25. Starting in 2020, Sanderson launched a series of educational and peer support “Chautauqua” meetings, initially focused on pandemic response issues, but eventually evolving into a standing multi-state conversation on association management issues, policy topics, and professional development for state directors.
