As America approaches its 250th anniversary, Maryland is honoring its rich history and contributions through MD Two Fifty, a statewide initiative
inviting residents to reflect on the state’s role in American history. From the Chesapeake Bay to the mountain peaks in the west, this commemoration aims to include all Marylanders.
- Citizen academy grants of $500 for county and municipal citizen academies for short-term programs to educate and engage citizens.
- MD Two Fifty Fellows paid internship grants with a mentor stipend of up to $7,500.
- Inclusive History grants for programs, projects, events, or research, up to $4,000.
Details and applications for these grants can be found on the MD Two Fifty website. Virtual information sessions will also be held next week, including one on September 26 at 1:00 p.m. for the MD TWO FIFTY Fellows program and another on September 27 at 11:00 a.m. for the Citizen Academy program. Information sessions for the Inclusive History grants are scheduled for late October. Additional details will be posted on the MD Two Fifty website and social media channels.
America250: America’s Field Trip
In partnership with America250, MD Two Fifty is promoting America’s Field Trip, a national student competition. In round one, Maryland celebrated nine student winners. First-place recipients won an all-expenses-paid trip to iconic American landmarks such as Yellowstone National Park, Mount Rushmore, and the Alamo. Second-place winners were awarded a $500 cash prize.
As round two launches, MD Two Fifty encourages Maryland schools and students to participate in this opportunity by submitting essays, poems, or artwork answering the question: “What does America mean to me?” While this is a national initiative led by America250, Maryland students are highly encouraged to apply.
