State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program Opportunity

Counties can strengthen their cybersecurity defenses with $6.4 million in available funding through the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program—apply by October 3, 2024.

This week, the Maryland Department of Emergency Management, the Department of Information Technology, and the Maryland State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) Planning Committee, announced a funding opportunity through SLCGP. The application period will begin Tuesday, September 3, 2024, and end Thursday, October 3, 2024.

SLCGP was established through the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). Its goal is to help state, local, tribal, and territorial (SLTT) governments strengthen their cybersecurity defenses.

All local governments in Maryland are eligible to apply for this grant. The term “local governments” includes counties, municipalities, school districts, regional government entities, and rural communities. Jurisdictions with populations under 50,000, which the U.S. Census Bureau has not designated as urbanized areas, qualify as rural and should apply.

Applicants must use the grant funds for cybersecurity projects and services that improve cyber resilience. The funding priorities align with those outlined by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and Maryland’s SLCGP Committee. As previously reported by MACo, the program’s goal is to help state and local governments address cybersecurity risks and threats to information systems.
