Prince George’s Council Passes Resolution to Build Eight New Schools

The Prince George’s County Council passed a resolution approving the County’s portion of a multi-year Memorandum of Understanding for phase 2 of the County’s P3 (public-private partnership) school construction project.

The State Interagency Commission on School Construction (IAC) must approve the deal at next week’s meeting. Once approved, the State will invest more than $800 million to accelerate construction, while the school system will make payments on the project for 30 years. The eight schools will replace 14 outdated schools.

Prince George’s County Public Schools is the first school system in the nation to leverage a full-scope alternative financing model to design, build, finance, and maintain a multi-school construction program. This approach aims to cut the typical seven-year timeline for school construction in half, ensuring that the new facilities are available sooner rather than later.
