Washington County Appoints Director of Emergency Management and Communication

The Washington County Board of County Commissioners appointed Alan Matheny as director of Emergency Management and Communications. Matheny brings over 30 years of public safety experience, including work with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Volunteer Fire Company of Halfway, MD, the Washington County Department of Permits and Inspections, and the Washington County Special Response Team.

Matheny will lead the County’s emergency preparedness and response initiatives, including coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies to ensure residents’ safety and well-being. Additionally, he will oversee the 9-1-1 Communications Center, enhancing public information and communication efforts to keep the community informed and engaged.
