Fee-free adoptions and discounted services continue to be a trend for local governments as animal shelters reach capacity on a rolling basis throughout the year.
Caring for and re-homing animals has long been the responsibility of local, county-run facilities. The local government programs are often in conjunction with community-based organizations, but in some areas, the county facility is the primary agency. Adoption fees help support these services in the community, but often the facilities become over-crowded and the agencies will hold “fee free” adoption events as well as waiving the cost of other services. Prince George’s held a fee free event in April earlier this year, Baltimore County hosted a whole week of waived costs and discounts, and St. Mary’s has made the entire month of June fee-free for dog and cat adoptions.
📢🐾 Our Animal Adoption & Resources Center is waiving ALL dog AND cat adoption fees through June 30, 2024! That’s right, you can bring home a new furry friend without any fees for the rest of this month🐶🐱❤️ Get the details here 👉https://t.co/WD5BktZexG pic.twitter.com/bzdY3WoETT
