Prince George’s and Amazon have partnered to support Gilbane Development Company in an affordable housing project at the West Hyattsville Metro station.
Amazon and Prince George’s County Department of Housing and Community Development have teamed up to support Gilbane Development Company housing project at the West Hyattsville Metro station. Once completed the development will 293 new units, 50 percent of which will be for tenants whose income is 80% of the area median income.
Prince George’s authroized $200,000 from the county’s Housing Investment Trust Fund and will be accepting a Payment in Lieu of Taxes. Amazon has approved a low interest loan from their Housing Equity Fund.
Once completed the project will be similar to other housing projects in the region, providing mixed use space for both commercial and residential use, as well as amenities such as pool, outdoor kitchen and two courtyards.
The project represents just one of Prince George’s efforts to build more affordable housing close to major transit infrastructure. Maryland’s counties take housing seriously and are at the forefront of trying to tackle the lack of affordable housing in our communitites.
