Board of State Canvassers Certifies State Election Results

The Board of State Canvassers certified the 2022 General Election results for federal and statewide elected offices and presented its certified findings to the Maryland State Board of Elections (SBE).

While county and municipal election results were previously certified at the local level (MACo’s General Election Results summary), any contest that includes votes across multiple counties must be certified at the state level. The Board of State Canvassers meets within 35 days of statewide elections to tabulate votes for each candidate.

Upon receiving the certified votes submitted by the local boards of canvassers, the Board of State Canvassers issued the Declaration of Results and completed the certification identifying individuals who were elected in the 2022 General Election.

The Secretary of State, the Comptroller, the State Treasurer, the Clerk of the Court of Appeals, and the Attorney General sit as members of the Board of State Canvassers.

The certified election results are available online.

At the 2023 MACo Winter Conference session, “Beyond the Ballot: The Evolution of Elections,” an expert panel will explore innovative policies and new solutions to advance and promote free, fair, and secure elections.

MACo’s Winter Conference, “Hit the Ground Running,” is at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Hotel in Cambridge, MD, from January 4-6, 2023 (with a pre-conference orientation for new county officials on January 3).
