MD Senate Republicans Elect Hershey, Ready to Leadership

The Maryland Senate Republican Caucus elected Senator Steve Hershey as Minority Leader and re-elected Senator Justin Ready as Minority Whip.

Senate Minority Leader Hershey, who sits on the Senate Finance Committee, served as the Senate Minority Whip from 2015-2020. Senator Hershey has represented District 36, which consists of Maryland’s Upper Eastern Shore, since 2013.

Before serving in the Maryland Senate, Senator Hershey was a member of the House of Delegates from 2011- 2013 and served on the Queen Anne’s County Economic Development Commission from 2002-2006.

Senate Minority Whip Justin Ready has served in his leadership position since October 2021. He has served as the Senator from District 5 in Carroll County since 2015 and served in the same district as a member of the House of Delegates from 2011 – 2015.

Senator Hershey and Senator Ready issued the following joint statement:

We are honored and humbled by the trust our fellow Senate Republicans have placed in us as we lead our caucus into the upcoming term as we return to single-party control of both the Legislative and Executive branches. The next four years will look very different however, we are collectively committed to continuing our legacy of ‘punching above our weight and holding the majority party accountable to the citizens of Maryland.”
