St. Mary’s County was awarded $398,118 as one of 13 recipients of the competitive Defense Community Infrastructure Program grant.
In a recent announcement by the Department of Defense, St. Mary’s County was selected to receive a $398,118 grant as part of the competitive Defense Community Infrastructure Program (DCIP). This effort was a collaboration between several county departments including Economic Development and Public Works and Transportation as well as Naval Air Station Patuxent River (NAS PAX). St. Mary’s plans to use the funds to build a signalized crosswalk across Three Notch Road at Gate 2.
Overall the project will, “interlinked improvements will allow safe bike and pedestrian access to the base and for base personnel to reach the Lexington Park commercial district to access local restaurants, services, and other businesses.” (Press Release)
The Department of Public Works and Transportation plans to begin construction of the signalized crosswalk within a year of receiving the grant funds. As part of the application St. Mary’s had to provide a match of h $169,336. The total project will cost $564,454.
