Representatives from Commerce, DHCD will provide details on COVID relief aid.
The Comptroller’s Workgroup on Pandemic Spending will hold its second meeting on Wednesday, June 23, at 1:30 pm to continue its review of state and federal COVID-related spending.
Sarah Sheppard, director of Education and Workforce for the Maryland Department of Commerce, and Robyne Chaconas, chief of staff for the Department of Housing and Community Development, will give overviews of pandemic relief programs, funded by either state or federal dollars, administered by their respective departments.
As previously reported on Conduit Street, the Comptroller’s Workgroup on Pandemic Spending is an agency-led panel charged with conducting a comprehensive review of state and federal COVID-related spending.
According to a press release:
Resulting from language inserted into the Fiscal Year 2022 budget by the Maryland General Assembly following Comptroller Franchot’s request for an independent review of pandemic-related spending, the workgroup is conducting a full inspection of how pandemic funds have been expended; determining if the funds went to intended recipients and populations most in need; examining disparities in distribution; and identifying possible predatory fraud and pandemic profiteering.
Wednesday’s meeting will take place at 1:30 pm in the Assembly Room at the Louis L. Goldstein Treasury Building.
The meeting will also be streamed on the Comptroller of Maryland’s YouTube channel.
