Hogan Announces Staff Appointments

Governor Larry Hogan today announced that Chris Shank has been named as director of external affairs and interagency initiatives and current press secretary Shareese Churchill will take on additional responsibility as deputy director of interagency communications.

Shank, in his new role, will manage relationships with external stakeholders to promote engagement with administration initiatives and identify strategic partnerships, and oversee a portfolio of multi-agency efforts.

From Hogan’s press release:

“I could not be more pleased to welcome Chris Shank back to our administration at this critical time for our state,” said Governor Hogan. “His expertise in solving problems and advancing innovative policy initiatives will be vital in our efforts to address the challenges we face and keep changing Maryland for the better.”

“I am honored to again serve the Hogan Administration,” said Shank. “The Governor and his team have been doing a phenomenal job leading our state through unparalleled challenges over this past year.  I’m very much looking forward to being back on his team and doing whatever I can to continue to move our great state forward.”

Churchill will retain her duties as press secretary while also expanding her portfolio to include managing and coordinating internal and external communications for the agencies that make up state government.

More from the press release:

“Shareese has been a valued and trusted member of our team since the first day I took office,” said Governor Hogan. “She is highly regarded by both her colleagues and members of the media, and we are excited to have her working closely with our agencies in their efforts to keep Marylanders informed.”

“I am proud to have served in the administration since January 2015, and look forward to continuing to work alongside Governor Hogan, our state agency communicators, and our press corps in this expanded role,” said Churchill.

Both Churchill and Shank’s appointments are effective on November 18, 2020.
