The Commissioners of St. Mary’s County have approved an extension of the County’s Solar Task Force until June 2021.
The Task Force has been examining solar zoning and siting in the county for the past several months through several public meetings. The Task Force was established in February, but was delayed due to the COVID crisis, and only able to begin work in June. On Tuesday, Bill Hunt, the County’s Director of Land Use and Growth Management asked the Commissioners for an extension of the Task Force time period so that the group can continue working. The County has asked the same firm that developed a solar siting map for Baltimore County and Baltimore City to develop a similar one for St. Mary’s. The mapping should help identify thoughtful and considerate locations for utility scale solar developments for the Task Force to consider.
