Maryland State Senate Minority Leader J.B. Jennings and Senate Minority Whip Stephen Hershey — the longest-serving leadership team in the history of the Senate Republican Caucus — today announced that they will not seek re-election to their respective leadership posts.
According to a statement from Minority Leader Jennings:
After six years of serving this Caucus as its leader, I am incredibly proud of the work we have done to support our party, our members, our constituents, and the people of Maryland. We have accomplished a great deal, and I believe now is the time to allow a new team to build on this success and lead our Caucus into the 2022 election season. Therefore, I will not seek re-election as leader of the Republican Senate Caucus this year.
Senator Jennings, who serves on the Senate Finance Committee, has served as Senate Minority Leader since 2014. Senator Hershey, who also sits on the Senate Finance Committee, has served as Senate Minority Whip since 2015.
