Allegany Commissioners Appoint Interim County Administrator

The Allegany Board of County Commissioners last week appointed the County’s Director of Finance Jason M. Bennett, CPA as interim county administrator. Bennett takes the reigns from former County Administrator Brandon Butler, who several weeks ago announced his resignation, effective May 31.

Bennett, who has served in Allegany County Government since 2003, serves as the chair of the Board of Trustees that oversees MACo’s Other Post-Employment Benefits (OPEB) Investment Trust Fund. In addition, Bennett is a member of the Maryland Government Finance Officers Association (MDGFOA), the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

According to a County press release:

Born and raised in Western Maryland, after graduating from Allegany High School, Cumberland, Maryland, Bennett earned of Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Frostburg State University, Frostburg, Maryland. He is an active licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland.

He joined Allegany County Government’s Department of Finance as an Accountant in November 2003. Bennett was promoted to Chief Accountant in December 2005 and became the Director of Finance in 2011.

Bennett is a member of the County’s Management Team and will also continue his duties as Director of Finance.
