Six Maryland counties — Montgomery, Prince George’s, Howard, Frederick, Anne Arundel, and Charles — have formed an economic development pact. The joint statement, mirrored after similar collaborative efforts in Virginia, will help the counties work together to attract businesses and alleviate competition.

Most notably, the signatories have agreed not to poach companies from each other. The various economic development offices have tried to avoid such direct conflict in the past, according to [President and CEO of the Prince George’s County Economic Development Corp. David] Iannucci but this arrangement will allow the jurisdictions to formalize a process when a company in one jurisdiction approaches a neighbor about relocating.
