Delegate Sara Love has introduced HB824 to the Maryland House of Delegates. The bill requires the Maryland Department of the Environment to establish a bottle deposit program by September 1, 2021. The bill also creates an advisory group to develop framework for the program and calls for a MACo representative to serve on the advisory group. The bill has been jointly assigned to the House Environment and Transportation Committee and the House Economic Matters Committee.
The General Assembly has rejected several proposals for bottle deposit programs in Maryland beginning in 2011. The Environment and Transportation Committee will hear the bill on February 26th at 1p.m.
