On Friday, January 29, 2016, Washington County Commissioner Vincent “Woody” Spong resigned as county commissioner.
According to the Herald-Mail Media,
(Washington County Administrator Gregory) Murray said the county received a letter from Spong about noon on Friday, saying his resignation was effective immediately.

Commissioner LeRoy E. Myers Jr. said he received a text message relaying the news from Commissioners President Terry L. Baker.
“Mr. Spong’s decision is just that — his decision,” Myers said. “I’m looking forward to installing the next commissioner soon and working with that individual for Washington County.”
