State and local officials from Allegany and Garrett Counties met with State Highway Administration officials earlier this week to discuss permit delays involving commercial projects and how to work together more cooperatively.
As reported by the Cumberland Times-News:
Local officials say several economic development projects have been delayed because of permitting delays from the SHA.
While SHA recognizes “we made some errors,” the problems were isolated and not systemic, said Melinda B. Peters, state highway administrator. Peters suggested monthly meetings between SHA personnel in Allegany and Garrett counties, county officials and developers to review the status of all projects underway and attempt to resolve any problems.
“We absolutely understand our role, but communication is key,” Peters said.
According to the article, officials were pleased with the meeting outcome.
