Allegany County Commission President Mike McKay recently announced his intention to run for the House of Delegates, pursuing a seat presumed open based on statement from incumbent Delegate Leroy Myers. From coverage in the Cumberland Times-News:
McKay made the announcement in front of the county office building on Kelly Road. McKay was flanked by his wife and his children and fellow Commissioners Bill Valentine and Creade Brodie Jr. Also standing next to McKay was Myers.
Myers said he is supporting McKay’s bid for the delegate seat.
“I’m wholeheartedly supporting Mike McKay,” Myers said. One of the reasons Myers announced he was not running again early was to give an opportunity for good candidates to think it over and get into the race, Myers said. “My hope was someone of his caliber would run and that’s what’s happened,” said Myers.
