NACo Financial Services Visits MACo for Consult

On July 11, Peter Torvik and Lisa Cole from NACo’s Financial Services Corporation (FSC) visited the MACo offices, to review mutually beneficial programs for the national and state associations.  The NACo FSC includes a number of county programs including the Deferred Compensation Program ; U.S. Communities Government Purchasing Alliance; Retirement Programs; and Cost Recovery/Cost Containment Programs.  Mr. Torvik, the Managing Director and CEO of the FSC, and Ms. Cole, an FSC Director, updated MACo Executive Director Michael Sanderson and MACo Administration & Finance Director Leslie Velasco on these current programs with broad Maryland county participation — currently 22 counties maintain active accounts through the US Communities joint purchasing program, while 14 counties offer employees service through the Deferred Compensation Program.

Mr. Torvik followed the meeting, commenting “NACo and MACo have been partners for over 30 years and NACo greatly values the support and membership of Maryland counties. We are excited to renew and expand this relationship by exchanging ideas and working even closer together on new programs and making our current programs better. Thanks to the entire staff of MACo for their hospitality and a very productive meeting.”

Ms. Cole, who has served as MACo’s key contact on joint programs for years, added “Meeting with Michael and Leslie gave me some great ideas on how we can work together better in promoting the programs that we already work closely on. I also got some food for thought on additional programs and services that we work jointly on.”
