On July 18, the House Labor-Health and Human Services (HHS)-Education Appropriations Subcommittee marked up their spending bill. As expected, the bill includes deep cuts to public health programs. The National Association of County and City Health Officers (NACCHO) has developed a summary of the bill. Full details should be available after full Committee markup next week.
A summary of the Senate bill is also available. The bills are not expected to be reconciled before the November election.
This week, NACCHO Executive Director Bobby Pestronk participated in visits with Members of Congress and the Office of Management and Budget on protecting the Prevention and Public Health Fund as part of a coalition of public health executives headed by Trust for America’s Health Executive Director Jeffery Levi.
