MACo Associate Director Les Knapp testified in support of House Bill 711 before the House Environmental Matters Committee on March 3. The bill, sponsored by Delegate Wendell Beitzel, would authorize a local government that has adopted an amendment to the Maryland Building Performance Standards that allows a stick-frame building or structure to opt-out of a requirement to have a sprinkler system to also adopt an amendment to allow modular homes to opt-out of the sprinkler requirement.
Mr. Knapp argued that the bill would simply apply a currently existing opt-out provision equally to stick-frame and modular homes. Garrett County Commissioner and MACo Board Member Gregan Crawford also testified in support of the bill.
