In a recent article published by the National Association of Counties, a NACo survey showed that 55% of county governments are not utilizing social web sites to stay in touch with their constituents. The notion of keeping people updated and informed with a few clicks on a cell phone or keyboard to Twitter or Facebook is, however, intriguing a growing group of government officials. County governments are beginning to sign up to a host of social web sites to proliferate information and messages to their respective constituents.
Roanoke, Virginia, for instance, maintains Facebook accounts for its public library; parks, recreation and tourism, and planning departments, and the county school system.
