Key Bridge Update: Dali Out, Proposals on Bridge Rebuild In

The Dali is on its way to Norfolk, Virginia. Proposals have been submitted for rebuilding the Key Bridge; the team will be chosen by late summer.

Dali is Out of Maryland

Monday morning, traffic across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge was stopped in order to make way for the Dali cargo ship. After months of being stuck in the Port of Baltimore after the Key Bridge collision, the Dali Cargo ship was finally allowed to leave Maryland. Four tug boats are accompanying the Dali on its journey to Norfolk, with the Coast Guard providing a 500-yard safety zone around the ship during transit. While in Norfolk, the Dali will have containers removed, and repairs will begin for collision-related damage. State and federal investigations into the collapse are still underway.

Proposals to Rebuild Key Bridge Under Review

Yesterday, at 4 p.m., the window to submit proposals to rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge closed. Officials from the Maryland Transportation Authority will now spend several weeks reviewing the submission and expect to name a winning team by the end of the summer. Officials estimate that the new bridge will cost around $2 billion. The bridge rebuild is under an incredibly accelerated timeline, as both the port and region are set to lose significant commercial activity without it.
