Maryland Comptroller Brooke Lierman has appointed Erica Roach as Chief Deputy Comptroller. Roach will assume the role following the departure of current Chief Deputy Comptroller Andrew Schaufele.
Roach currently serves as Assistant Deputy Comptroller for Revenue Operations at the Comptroller’s Office, where she oversees executive functions tied to statewide revenue collection, taxpayer assistance, and operational performance supporting more than $27 billion in annual state revenue.
As Chief Deputy Comptroller, Roach will work closely with the Comptroller and agency leadership to advance strategic priorities across the office, including revenue administration, taxpayer services, and modernization initiatives.
Before joining the Comptroller’s Office, Roach served as Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Chief Financial Officer at the US Office of Personnel Management, where she oversaw financial management activities for an organization responsible for more than $1.2 trillion in financial assets. Her background also includes private sector consulting roles focused on financial management and government technology modernization.
MACo and its County Budget and Finance Officers Affiliate regularly coordinate with the Comptroller’s Office on issues affecting local revenues, including the distribution of local income taxes, tax compliance initiatives, and taxpayer services.
