Fun Fact: Where Do Marylanders Stand On New Year’s Resolutions?

Every new year brings an opportunity for a fresh start—whether that means making changes, setting goals, or trying something new. But how many Marylanders are planning to make New Year’s resolutions for 2026?

As the holiday season winds down and the new year begins, many people reflect on goals for the year ahead. However, a recent poll conducted by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) suggests that a majority of Marylanders are stepping away from this long-standing tradition. More than 800 adults were surveyed between December 2 and 6, and the results show that 72 percent of Marylanders do not plan to make a New Year’s resolution for 2026.

Among those who do plan to set resolutions, the most common focus areas include health, finances, relationships, government, and overall life improvements.

Whether you choose to make a New Year’s resolution or simply welcome the year with an open mind, the start of a new year is always a chance for growth and new beginnings. Here’s to a happy and successful new year!
