The Montgomery County Council appointed Shebra Evans to fill the at-large seat previously held by Gabe Albornoz, who resigned earlier this month. Evans will serve through December 1, 2026.
Evans previously served eight years on the Montgomery County Board of Education. She focused on education, workforce development, and long-range fiscal planning, and served twice as board president.

“Shebra Evans will bring outstanding civic and professional experience to the Council as an at-large member, and we look forward to working with her as our new colleague,” said Council President Natali Fani-González. “After a thorough interview process, the Council is confident that Shebra Evans will serve the people of Montgomery County with integrity, curiosity, and fairness in this caretaker role.”
Council President Fani-González also announced committee adjustments following Evans’ appointment. Councilmember Laurie-Anne Sayles will chair the Health and Human Services Committee, and Council Member Andrew Friedson will join the committee.
Evans will serve on the Education and Culture Committee and the Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee. All other committee assignments remain the same.
