Data Centers Take Center Stage for Large County Coalition at #MACoCon

Maryland’s largest counties sit at the center of a national surge in data center development. Demand for cloud services, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and high-performance computing continues to rise, and counties now face new questions about land use, energy infrastructure, workforce pipelines, and long-term fiscal impact.

While data centers bring significant tax revenue and infrastructure investment, they also create real challenges: power availability, community compatibility, emergency response needs, and the complexity of coordinating with utilities and intergovernmental agencies.

Large counties increasingly need clear strategies to manage growth, protect residents, and capitalize on economic development opportunities.

At the MACo Winter Conference, the Large County Coalition will take a close look at these issues and discuss what’s coming next for Maryland’s data center landscape.

  • Luncheon topic: Data centers
  • Guest Speaker: Michael Kuykendall, Senior Vice President, Catellus Development Corporation, Catellus Maryland
  • Moderator: The Honorable Wanika Fisher, Council Member, Prince George’s County
  • Date/Time: Thursday, December 11, 2025; 11:45 am – 12:45 pm

This conversation will help county leaders navigate rapid market changes, understand state and regional dynamics, and prepare for the policy decisions that will shape Maryland’s future digital infrastructure.

MACo’s Winter Conference, “Local Leadership, Lasting Impact: Shaping What’s Next,” will be held at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Hotel in Cambridge, MD, on December 10–12, 2025.
