Casselman River Bridge State Park, located in Garrett County, is Maryland’s smallest state park, covering just 4 acres. Established around the historic Casselman River Bridge, the park preserves an important piece of early American infrastructure. Built in 1813, the 80-foot-long, 30-foot-high stone arch bridge was once the longest single-span stone bridge in the United States.

For over a century, from 1813 to 1933, the bridge served as part of the National Road, facilitating trade and transportation. Though no longer open to vehicles, visitors can still walk across this remarkable structure and take in the park’s scenic beauty.

The area is a popular destination for visitors looking to enjoy sightseeing, fishing, picnicking, and walking. Currently, the Casselman River Bridge is undergoing a restoration project that began last year to repair and preserve its historic structure. While access to the bridge is temporarily limited, visitors can still admire its beauty from a short distance. The Casselman River remains open for fishing, allowing guests to continue enjoying the park’s tranquil setting.
