Maryland is transforming public service with the launch of the nation’s first-ever public procurement apprenticeship program, paving the way for a skilled and dynamic workforce.
Maryland launched the Future of Procurement Apprenticeship—the nation’s first apprenticeship program dedicated to public procurement. Announced by the Office of Governor Wes Moore, the pilot program is spearheaded by the Maryland Department of General Services and aims to train the next generation of skilled procurement professionals while promoting workforce development and economic growth across the state.
This innovative program provides participants with a structured pathway to careers in public procurement. Through a combination of classroom instruction, on-the-job training, and certification programs, participants will gain:
- An associate degree in procurement-related studies from a Maryland community college.
- State procurement certifications, including the Certified Maryland Procurement Associate and Procurement Officer programs.
- Practical experience to prepare for roles such as Procurement Officer I within Maryland’s government.
The program not only equips participants with technical skills but also instills a commitment to public service, preparing them to meet the complex demands of modern procurement.
