Carroll County Tourism

The Carroll County Barn Quilt Trail is a collaborative initiative created by the Carroll County Arts Council, Office of Tourism, Department of Recreation and Parks, and Public Library. By installing 8-foot square quilt blocks on barns throughout Carroll County, people are able to enjoy the creative beauty they hold. Each quilt block showcases a mix of classic patterns that celebrate rural life and unique designs created by farm owners that share stories about their families or farming operations.

The trail’s first phase introduced twelve traditional quilt patterns, selected and painted by volunteers. Over time, additional quilt blocks have been custom-designed by local families, then professionally printed by a local company. Each vibrant 8-foot quilt square is installed on historic barns and landmark buildings tied to Carroll County’s cultural heritage. The tradition traces back to when farmers put Pennsylvania Dutch hex signs and folk art up on their barns for display, and is now a legacy  celebrated in Carroll County.

Visit the Carroll County Barn Quilt Trail to see a full list of beautiful quilts and their history.
