County Leaders Will Head to DC: Maryland Federal General Election Wrap-Up

In an upset year for Democrats nationally, party sweeps federal offices in Old Line State. 

President & Vice President

Democrats Kamala Harris & Tim Walz received 1,485,253 votes (59.74%), and Republicans Donald Trump and JD Vance received 920,393 votes (37.02%). The Democrats won Maryland’s 10 electoral votes.

Senate

Democrat Angela Alsobrooks, Prince George’s County Executive and MACo Board member, received 1,289,266 votes (52.11%), and Republican Larry Hogan, former Governor of Maryland, received 1,119,088 votes (45.23%). Angela Alsobrooks won Maryland’s open Senate seat, with former Governor Hogan conceding the loss.

House of Representatives

1st District

Democrat Blane H. Miller, III received 119,958 votes (33.99%), and Republican incumbent Andy Harris, received 221,368 votes (62.72%). Representative Harris won reelection in the 1st District.

2nd District 

Democrat John “Johnny O” Olszewski, Jr, III, Baltimore County Executive and 2024 MACo President, received 179,085 votes (55.51%), and Republican Kim Klacik received 136,129 votes (42.19%). County Executive Olszewski won election in the open 2nd District.

3rd District

Democrat Sarah Elfreth, currently a member of the Maryland State Senate, received 194,493 votes (57.06%), and Republican Robert J. Steinberger received 136,667 votes (40.10%). State Senator Elfreth won election in the open 3rd District.

4th District

Democratic incumbent Glenn Ivey received 187,726 votes (88.01%), and Republican George McDermott received 24,931 votes (11.69%). Representative Ivey won reelection in the 4th District.

5th District

Democratic incumbent Steny Hoyer received 230,233 votes (65.60%), and Republican George McDermott received 119,970 votes (34.18%). Representative Hoyer won reelection in the 5th District.

6th District

So far Democratic April McClain Delaney received 160,138 votes (49.94%), and Republican Neil C. Parrott received 159,823 votes (49.84%). This is shaping up to be a rather tight race with only 315 votes separating the two candidates.  The final outcome will likely come down to late counted mail-in and provisional ballots.

*As of 1:30p on November 8th, Delaney has expanded her lead to 174,515 votes, Parrott has 165,750 votes.

7th District 

Democratic incumbent Kweisi Mfume received 178,344 votes (78.44%), and Republican Scott M. Collier received 42,975 votes (18.90%). Representative Mfume won reelection in the 7th District.

8th District

Democratic incumbent Jamie Raskin received 220,214 votes (75.42%), and Republican Cheryl Riley received 64,013 votes (21.92%). Representative Raskin won reelection in the 8th District.
