PIA Compliance Board Issues Annual Report for 2024

The Maryland Public Information Act (PIA) Compliance Board issued the 2024 report detailing workload, decisions, and recommendations.

As detailed in the report, FY 2024 saw a fairly substantial increase in cases sent in by both requestors and government custodians. The report contains a description of the Board’s activities during FY 2024, including information about the number and nature of complaints filed, and summaries of the Board’s decisions. The report also contains, as an appendix, the Public Access Ombudsman’s annual report. The law does not require the Ombudsman to submit an annual report, but the Board believes that such a report is useful to understand the current state of alternative dispute resolution under the PIA.
