Fun Fact: In Which Maryland County Can You Enjoy a Fall Train Ride Through a Pumpkin Patch?

Hayrides and short walks are the usual ways to reach pumpkin patches in Maryland, but Allegany County offers a unique twist on the traditional experience—a train ride to the pumpkin patch. This scenic journey adds a memorable and charming element to the fall festivities.

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is putting a new spin on the classic hayride and wagon to pumpkin patches with their Pumpkin Patch Limited Train Ride. This hour-long round trip takes passengers through the picturesque railways to Bone Cave and back. Upon arriving at the pumpkin patch, each visitor receives a pumpkin, apple cider, and decorations. Halloween costumes are highly encouraged to add to the festive spirit. Trains depart from Cumberland in Allegany County, on October 19th, 20th, 26th, and 27th, with departure times at 9:30 AM, noon, and 2:00 PM.

The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad traces its origins back to the Western Maryland Railway, which operated from 1852 to 1983. Today, the railroad continues to run, though it has undergone modernization over the years. In addition to the seasonal Pumpkin Patch Limited, the railroad offers various excursions throughout the year, including dinner trains and the popular Polar Express™ train ride during the winter season.
