The Maryland State Board of Elections will begin sending mail-in ballots for the 2024 General Election to registered voters who requested them on Friday, September 20.
More than 578,000 ballots will be sent through the mail, while over 91,000 will be delivered electronically. Voters receiving ballots by mail should expect to receive them within five days.
There’s still time for anyone who wants to receive but has not yet requested a mail-in ballot. Requests must be received (not just sent) by Tuesday, October 29, to receive a ballot by mail.
For those opting for web delivery, the deadline to submit the request is Friday, November 1. Additional details are available on the State Board’s mail-in ballot webpage.
State Administrator Jared DeMarinis emphasized the ease and security of voting by mail: “Marylanders should submit their mail-in ballot request as soon as possible and plan to return it either by secure drop box or the US Postal Service. If you have questions about your voting options, contact SBE or follow us on social media for accurate election information.”
Election officials installed 286 ballot drop boxes across the state for convenience. Voters can submit their completed mail-in ballots at any official drop box in their County until 8:00 pm on Election Day, November 5. When returning by mail, ensure the ballot is postmarked by November 5.
In addition to mail-in voting, Marylanders have the option of early voting or casting their vote on Election Day. Early voting runs from Thursday, October 24, through Thursday, October 31, with centers open daily from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. A list of early voting centers is available on the SBE website.
Polling places on Election Day will be open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, November 5. Voters should confirm their polling location, as some locations may have changed since the Primary Election.
In recognition of National Voter Registration Month, SBE encourages Marylanders to register to vote by visiting their online application page or in person at their local Board of Elections office. The deadline to register is Tuesday, October 15.
Counties administer and fund elections at the local level, overseeing polling places and coordinating poll workers every two years. Election workers work hard to ensure elections are accurate, safe, and accessible.
Marylanders interested in serving as election judges can complete SBE’s online interest form or contact their local board of elections.
