Prince George’s County Announces Crisis Care Facility

Prince George’s County is set to open a behavioral crisis stabilization center.

Prince George’s County announced the opening of the Dyer Care Center, a behavioral crisis stabilization center. RI International, the nation’s largest Second Chance employer, will operate the county-owned center, which will soon open. This newly renovated facility will expand access to crucial services for mental, behavioral, and substance abuse crises. The Dyer Care Center expects to serve up to 3,500 people annually, embracing a “no wrong door” policy to accept everyone, including the uninsured and under-insured.

From the press release:

“The Dyer Care Center represents a crucial step forward in our efforts to improve access to emergency behavioral health services for our residents,” said County Executive Alsobrooks. “Since the beginning of my administration, we have worked to improve healthcare for all Prince Georgians, and I am so grateful that we are adding this important crisis stabilization center to our community. This center will provide a safe, compassionate place for Prince Georgians during their greatest time of need.”

“The Dyer Care Center is our community’s lifeline during critical times of need,” says Dr. Matthew Levy, Health Officer for the Prince George’s County Health Department. “Our collaboration with local partners ensures seamless transitions for ongoing care. Let’s prioritize wellness and prevention together!”

Open 24/7, the 16-chair Dyer Care Center offers short-term (up to 23 hours) emergency services for individuals 18 and older. The center follows the Crisis Now model, providing support for those experiencing severe anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, or psychosis. The intake process is led by peer support specialists collaborating with mental health clinicians, guaranteeing an efficient and empathetic welcome for all guests.
