Tonight marks the beginning of a statewide, 5-part regional listening tour by Maryland’s Commission on Public Health.
Maryland’s Commission on Public Health is tasked with assessing the foundational public health capabilities of state and local health departments in Maryland and analyzing the state’s ability to respond to major public health challenges. To inform their work the commission will be holding 5 listening sessions to hear feedback from communities directly.
Members of the public are invited to attend the listening sessions in person and share their thoughts on any of the topics the Commission will report on. The public can also send in written comments through the online form: https://lnkd.in/ec_-qMMG. Comments made in person and through the form will be shared with the Commission on Public Health.

The bill establishing the commission and mandating the work of the group passed in 2023 and took effect last June. Just shy of 40 local officials are included among the commission membership and work groups. The expertise of county officials involved is spread across a number of divisions including health departments, human and citizen service divisions, schools, as well as social justice and equity offices.
In June of 2025 the commission is scheduled to make recommendations for reform in several areas, including the organization of public health departments; information technology, information exchange, and data analytics; workforce; procurement; funding; and communication and public engagement.
The meeting this evening will be broadcast live on the St. Mary’s County Government’s YouTube Channel: youtube.com/@StMarysCoGov.
